Monarch Butterflies

Over the past 20 years, North American Monarch_butterfly_-_Butterfly_Place_in_Westford,_Massachusetts_(2)monarch butterfly populations have seen a 90% decline due to the disappearance of milkweed plants. In response to the diminishing monarchs, dozens of mayors and local government executive officials, including many GLSLCI members, have committed to the National Wildlife Federation's Mayors' Monarch Pledge, an effort to restore monarch habitats. Commitments include the conversion of abandoned lots into monarch habitat, public outreach about milkweed cultivation, and modification of local ordinances to better support monarch populations. Click here for more information on NWF's Mayors' Monarch Pledge and here for complete list of local commitments.
